In Bârlad, Romania — Children Are Falling Through the Cracks
In Bârlad and the surrounding villages, there are no special education classes. None. Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are placed in mainstream classrooms with no accommodations, no support, and no chance of keeping up. They fall behind. They stop going. Many never finish school.
For the children at our center who are orphans, the situation is even more urgent. Without education, without someone in their corner, the odds shift against them — and as they reach their teens, the risk of exploitation and trafficking grows every year they go unsupported.
No Special Education
Bârlad has zero special education classes. Children with disabilities are left to fall behind in mainstream schools — or drop out entirely.
No Local Therapy Access
Speech, occupational, and art therapy simply don't exist in rural communities. Delia's Center is the only option.
Orphans at Greatest Risk
Without education and daily support, orphaned children with disabilities face growing risks of exploitation and trafficking as they age out of the system.
Families Without Support
Parents carry the weight alone — no community resources, no respite, no roadmap for their child's future.
